SHAH ALAM: A special press conference is expected to be held today to explain the turmoil within the Bersatu Shah Alam Division, which may result in an announcement about the division's leaders and members leaving the party.
The press conference to address the postponement of the Bersatu divisional election is scheduled for 3pm today and is to be held in Section 7.
Earlier, FMT reported that a Bersatu Shah Alam grassroots leader criticised the party's last-minute decision to delay the divisional conference, which was originally set for 3pm today, where new leadership for the 2025-2027 term was to be elected.
Kampung Kebun Bunga Bersatu chief Mohamad Anuar Giman reportedly criticised the cancellation letter issued late last night by the party's secretary general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, calling it unreasonable.
Anuar argued that the cancellation, which cited the ongoing investigation by the disciplinary board into the disruptions during the Nov 2 conference, was unjustified.
Azmin explained that the investigation, which also involved the contesting candidates, led the party's supreme council leadership to decide that today's Bersatu Shah Alam conference would be postponed.
However, Anuar, a former Bersatu Shah Alam committee member, claimed that the last-minute cancellation was aimed at benefiting a certain candidate supported by a Bersatu state assemblyman, who is expected to lose in today's election.
Anuar insisted that despite the postponement, they would still go to Lavender Hall in Section 7, Shah Alam, to attend what they expect will turn into a party exit announcement.
According to a letter issued by the party's election committee dated Dec 9, Bersatu Shah Alam was instructed to hold a new conference today, with a team to handle the election has also been appointed.
In addition to Shah Alam, the party's election committee also announced that 10 divisions could not convene for the election on Nov 2. These divisions are Hulu Langat, Kota Melaka, Jasin, Tapah, Teluk Intan, Machang, Bukit Mertajam, Bukit Bendera, Tanjong and Cameron Highlands.
One of the reasons for this decision was complaints alleging that false reports had been submitted regarding branch and membership conferences.
