Trailer driver fined RM22,000 for multi-vehicle crash

KUALA LUMPUR: A trailer driver who crashed into six vehicles at a traffic light intersection on Jalan Seri Medan Batu Pahat last week has been fined RM22,000.

Magistrate Suhaila Shafi'uddin delivered the sentence after Muhammad Ridzuan Muhammad Rani pleaded guilty to four charges.

The first charge involved driving the trailer without due care and attention, resulting in an accident with a motorcycle at 3.45pm on Oct 13.

The second to fourth charges pertained to similar offences, causing accidents with a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a multi-purpose vehicle at the same time and location.

He was charged under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a penalty of up to RM10,000 and a prison sentence of 12 months for each charge.

After considering arguments from both sides, the court imposed a fine of RM5,000 for the first and second charges, and RM6,000 for the third and fourth charges.
