Fahmi: Sabah governor appointment lies in Agong's hands

KUALA LUMPUR: Unity government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil has reiterated that the appointment of the Sabah governor is the King's prerogative, made after consultation with the state's chief minister.

His remarks came in response to Muda acting president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, who accused Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of hypocrisy over the recent appointment of Tan Sri Musa Aman to the post.

Referencing Article 1 of Sabah's Constitution, Fahmi stressed that the prime minister played no role in the appointment process.

"Before making baseless statements, you should read Article 1(1) of Sabah's Constitution, which clearly outlines the duties and responsibilities concerning the appointment of the state governor," Fahmi said in a post on X.

He also shared a link to the constitution, urging Amira to review it for clarification.

While Amira acknowledged that Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor had proposed Musa's name, she argued that Hajiji's role as chairman of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah tied him to the unity government.

Meanwhile, Muda information chief Leben Siddarth called on Pakatan Harapan to clarify its stance on Musa's appointment, expressing concerns about his previous graft case.
