No foreign worker regularisation programme in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The Immigration Department has denied claims of a foreign worker regularisation programme in Sabah.

Sabah Immigration director Datuk SH Sitti Saleha Habib said the claims of the "Smart Sabah" foreign worker regularisation programme circulating on WhatsApp are fake.

The message circulating on WhatsApp claimed that registration for a foreign worker regularisation programme would take place in Ranau today with fees starting from RM850.

It claimed these fees could be made directly to immigration officers at the registration session.

"No immigration officer is involved in the supposed regularisation programme," Sitti said in a statement.

"The public is urged to be vigilant and verify messages received through WhatsApp or other social media platforms."

She warned those spreading false information could face action under Section 505 of the Penal Code for statements conducing to public mischief and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities.
