KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) might see leadership changes. The state PKR bureau political chairman, Datuk Seri Christina Liew, said that the issue was deliberated during the recent special congress in Kuala Lumpur.
"Last weekend, we had discussions with our president, and among our state leadership council (MPN) and political bureau.
"The process is still ongoing, so be patient, as things will turn out well," Liew told reporters after attending a dinner with PKR vice president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad at a hotel here last night.
The Api-Api PKR division chief did not disclose the exact changes that will happen, but it is learnt that it might change the current leadership in the Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.
On Dec 1, during the Sabah PH coalition chairmanship election, United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) president Datuk Ewon Benedick was appointed to lead the coalition, replacing Liew, who had held the position since 2017. Liew lost by three votes.
When asked whether other Sabah PH components were informed about the potential leadership changes, Liew said it is the responsibility of Sabah PKR chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud to liaise with the coalition members.
It is understood that Mustapha is currently out of Sabah.
Meanwhile, Nik Nazmi stressed the importance of political stability and strengthening the party's machinery.
"The priority for PKR is to ensure political stability, especially as we lead the government at both federal and state levels.
"The state party machinery must be strengthened to prepare for elections. We need strong leadership and individuals who work on the ground," he said during his speech.
He added that PKR continues its fight against poverty and remains committed to addressing issues related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
"Therefore, we should not feel apologetic about being a 'Malaya' party because we are, in fact, a national party," he said.
Also present at the dinner were Sabah PKR vice president Datuk Peto Galim and Sabah information chief Razeef Rakimin.
