'Not Clean': Mara chairman unhappy with kitchen hygiene at KPM Indera Mahkota

KUALA LUMPUR: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman, Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, expressed his dissatisfaction after inspecting the kitchen facilities and other student amenities at the MARA Professional College Indera Mahkota, Kuantan, Pahang.

In a surprise visit yesterday to the educational centre, Asyraf met with students, sought their complaints, and promptly inspected the kitchen and toilets to ensure the well-being and health of the students.

"May I inspect the kitchen? This place needs to be upgraded. It is not clean. Ensure there are no complaints of food poisoning," he warned the canteen operator.

Not satisfied with the cleanliness, Asyraf questioned the operator: "How often is the kitchen cleaned? And how frequently do you change the cooking oil? This place must be kept clean. Make sure the area is spotless," he added.

Upon visiting the toilets, Asyraf mentioned that he had received complaints about their cleanliness.

"Just now, someone complained that the toilets are in bad condition. Are they clogged?" he asked.

Asyraf shared his visit to the college in a Facebook post.

"Yesterday afternoon, coincidentally having business in Kuantan, I took the opportunity to make a surprise visit #Terjah to MARA Professional College Indera Mahkota.

"This followed several messages and comments on my social media, such as TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, from parents and students who complained about issues such as the restriction of Wi-Fi usage until 11pm, the cleanliness of certain cafes, and the poor condition of facilities such as the toilets," he said.

To the excitement of the students, Asyraf announced that he had chaired a MARA Council meeting last week to approve an additional RM3.1 million budget to improve the infrastructure facilities at KPM Indera Mahkota.

Asyraf also announced that students will enjoy 24-hour Wi-Fi access to ensure they can complete their assignments.

"If you students are not happy with the situation in the next few months, you know where to report," he said.
