Festive cheer: Free toll on Monday, Tuesday for private vehicles [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians travelling in private vehicles (Class 1 vehicles) will enjoy free tolls from 12.01am on Monday until 11.59pm the following day in conjunction with the upcoming festive season.

Similar to last year, Class 1 highway users can enjoy toll-free journey from Dec 23 until Christmas eve.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi in a statement today said the toll exemption is applicable for all tolled highways except for toll plazas at the border such as Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Tanjung Kupang in Johor.

He said the toll-free campaign is estimated to cost the government around RM38 million, to be paid to highway concessionaires.

"The government will bear the cost of the campaign and will compensate the participating highway concessionaires," he said.

He said the campaign was carried out in the aspiration of "Madani dihati, Rakyat disantuni " to help reduce the cost of living and to strengthen the culture of unity among multiracial communities in Malaysia.

"It is hoped that all highway users will benefit from the announcement and users are advised to plan their journey to ensure a smooth journey.

"Users are also advised to adhere to the recommended travel time advisory (TTA) to enhance safety during their driving experience, ensuring that all highway users arrive at their destinations safely and make this festive celebration truly meaningful."

SmartTAG users are advised to ensure the device has sufficient battery and to signal before entering the lane, providing early notice to other drivers.

All highway users are urged to drive safely and to follow all the road rules.

"Hopefully everyone will play their role in ensuring our highways are safe and reducing the accident statistics during this festive season," he said.
