SUBANG JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said some prosecution cases after the 14th General Election were flawed because they were rushed.
"You must also know that, at that time, the pace of prosecution was hurried, driven by venom, enmity, and political vengeance by those in power.
"So, many of the prosecutions were flawed," he told a press conference.
He was responding to a question about the independence of the judiciary following the acquittal of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor on money laundering and tax evasion charges earlier this week.
Anwar said criticisms of the government over the court's decision were hypocritical.
"You want me to interfere in the judicial process? This is judicial independence.
"When the judge makes a different decision, you blame others or disagree with the outcome. The Attorney-General disagrees, which is why the decision on Rosmah's case is being appealed."
Previously, High Court Judge K. Muniandy ruled that the charges against Rosmah were illegal and flawed, explaining his decision to acquit the wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"Datin Seri Rosmah, with all due respect, has already been convicted (in a separate case). Let the process run its course."
In 2022, Rosmah was convicted on three corruption charges involving the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid energy project for rural schools in Sarawak. She is appealing the decision.
Anwar reiterated that he has never interfered with the judiciary.
"In my two years in office, I have not interfered in any case. Has that happened in the past?"
