SUBANG JAYA: The Federal Government remains fair in channelling allocations to states affected by disasters, including the four opposition-led states, says the Prime Minister.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Federal Government has also increased allocations to Kelantan, Kedah, Terengganu, and Perlis to ensure that issues are addressed effectively.
Although some are dissatisfied that the funds are not channelled directly to elected representatives, political party leaders, or state administrations, he said that the Federal Government provides assistance in the form of aid to the people and directly funds project costs.
"To provide further clarification, our allocation to affected states, including opposition-led states, is sometimes portrayed in their narrative as if Kelantan and Terengganu receive no allocations, insufficient funds, or issues with the special grants from the Federal Government.
For example, Kedah's allocation from the Federal Government increased from RM523.86 million in 2024 to RM532.07 million in 2025.
"That is why I think presenting these figures serves as evidence to counter the narrative, which I believe is politically motivated due to electoral concerns. However, in my view, the priority is the wellbeing of the people affected by floods, poverty, and rice farmers. That is what we focus on. That's why, if we look at the overall allocations - whether per capita grants, annual allocations, joint lists, local authorities, public libraries, museums, tourism, or special annual grants - all of them have increased," he said at a press conference here today.
Anwar said Kelantan's allocation has also increased from RM380.26 million this year to RM429.05 million next year. For Terengganu, he said the amount has also risen from RM431.78 million this year to RM450.12 million next year.
"This includes Perlis, where the allocation increased from RM210.62 million this year to RM215.97 million," he said. The development expenditure and development projects for the four states governed by the opposition party have also increased, Anwar said.
"In 2024, Perlis had 159 projects with an allocation of RM635.27 million, increasing to 176 projects with an allocation of RM643.06 million next year. In Kedah, there were 430 projects this year with an allocation of RM1.78 billion, increasing to 488 projects with an allocation of RM2.23 billion next year. In Kelantan, there were 425 projects with an allocation of RM2.79 billion this year, rising to 471 projects with an allocation of RM3.19 billion next year.
"In Terengganu, 385 projects with an allocation of RM1.59 billion were implemented this year, increasing to 420 projects with a total allocation of RM1.84 billion next year," he said.
