KUALA LUMPUR: The individual who claims to know the identities of the "Tok Ayah" and "DK" involving the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) probe into the "fly syndicate" is attempting to divert attention from his own cases.
A credible source revealed that this individual used to be a confidential informant who worked with MACC.
"This individual is now the subject of other investigations. He is only doing this to divert attention and put the spotlight on others," the source told the New Straits Times.
Malaysiakini reported that the codenames "Tok Ayah" and "DK" have been identified as key masterminds in the MACC investigation into the "fly syndicate" involving RM1.2 million in bribes, according to a MACC source.
It was claimed that an MACC detainee had disclosed the names during the investigation.
"During questioning the suspect named these two individuals. They claimed to have received instructions from Tok Ayah and DK.
"According to the suspect, Tok Ayah is their superior officer, while DK is an influential individual. Therefore, they felt they had no choice," a source told Malaysiakini.
Meanwhile, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said he was unsure to whom the news portal was referring.
"It is possible that they interviewed a suspect who is attempting to defend himself.
"Regarding the MACC investigation, when we investigate a case, we do so professionally and will thoroughly evaluate the defences presented by the suspect," he said, adding that the fundamental issue remained whether the suspect was involved in the commission of the crime.
