KUANTAN: A 55-year-old man who went missing after failing to return home from a health clinic near here on Dec 13 was found dead in his car today.
Safri Mohd Ali, last seen leaving his home in Kampung Hijrah near here in a Perodua Viva, was discovered in the parking area of a restaurant in Sungai Isap around 4.40pm.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said a passerby alerted the police after discovering an unconscious man inside a car in the parking area.
"The man informed police that the dark blue Perodua had been parked in the area for about a week.
"When he inspected the vehicle today, he noticed a foul odour coming from inside the car.
"Upon approaching the car's front windscreen, he saw a fully-clothed man who appeared to have passed out," Wan Mohd Zahari said in a statement today.
Police dispatched to the scene found the body in a swollen state. Further checks revealed the victim's MyKad, mobile phone, and sling bag.
"The remains have been identified as Safri, who was reported missing on Dec 13," he added.
Wan Mohd Zahari said Safri's family members confirmed that the body was him and initial investigations found no criminal evidence while the body has been sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here for a post-mortem.
Yesterday, police had sought public assistance to locate Safri, who suffers from asthma, after he failed to return home from Kampung Kurnia Health Clinic near here on Dec 13.
