Malaysian parliament volunteers to assist flood victims in Jeniang, Kedah

KUALA LUMPUR: A convoy of six four-wheel-drive vehicles carrying more than 15 volunteers from the Malaysian parliament departed for Jeniang, Kedah today to carry out a post-flood relief mission in the affected areas.

Its corporate communications division, in a statement, said the relief mission, organised by the Malaysian Parliament Welfare and Sports Club, aims to deliver daily necessities and assist in cleaning homes of flood victims.

"Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul will join the volunteers, who are led by Malaysian Parliament chief administrator Datuk Ahmad Husaini Abdul Rahman.

"The mission aligns with the Malaysian Parliament's goal of bringing Parliament closer to the people through direct engagement via programmes and activities," the statement read.

The convoy was flagged off by undersecretary (management) Riduan Rahmat at the lobby of the block for members of parliament and the administration office.
