Man nabbed for smashing woman's car windscreen with iron chain

GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly attacking a woman's car with an iron chain, smashing the front windscreen, during an incident on Christmas Day at Jalan Penang.

Deputy northeast district police chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake, said the man, riding a motorcycle, swung the chain at the victim's car at 1.48pm.

"The man was apprehended near Jalan Padang Tembak, Air Itam, later that day, thanks to the swift response of the police," he said in a statement.

The 36-year-old victim, who was not acquainted with the suspect, was unaware of the motive behind the attack.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect, a factory operator with two prior criminal records, tested negative for drugs.

Police also seized the iron chain, helmet, and yellow T-shirt worn by the man during the incident.

The man has been remanded for three days, from yesterday until tomorrow, for further investigation under Section 427 of the Penal Code (mischief).

A woman posted photos of the incident on the Facebook group Penang Idiot Parking & Reckless Driver, warning others of the danger.

"This man is dangerous, everyone be careful," she wrote.
