KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh has called on the government, the Malaysia Highway Authority (LLM), and PLUS Expressways Berhad (PLUS) to install streetlights along the North-South Expressway (northbound), near the Ayer Keroh Rest and Service Area (R&R).
His call follows a tragic accident on Tuesday that resulted in seven deaths and 33 injuries.
He said that this incident was not the first, as he believes the accident occurred due to the highway's poor lighting, with no streetlights installed in the area.
In a Facebook post, Akmal urged authorities to address the issue to prevent future incidents.
"If we can install streetlights in rural areas without tolls, surely we can provide them on toll roads where users pay for the service," he said.
Earlier this week, a collision involving a tour bus, trailer, and a Toyota Estima MPV at Km204 of the North-South Expressway near Ayer Keroh R&R resulted in the fatalities.
The victims included three adult men, three adult women, and a child.
