KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has confirmed that he will be present at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya this Monday to show solidarity with Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The Merlimau state assemblyman however said his presence at the rally on Monday will be in a personal capacity.
He reiterated that his support for the former prime minister and former Umno president remains unchanged.
"As a party member, we uphold the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and respect the party's decision not to gather.
"However, I will still attend in my personal capacity to support Najib, as I have before," he said.
Umno announced last night that it has cancelled its attendance at the 'Solidarity with Datuk Seri Najib Razak' rally in response to a royal decree issued by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
In a statement, the party expressed its full respect for the King's prerogative powers as outlined in Articles 42(1) and (2) of the Federal Constitution, which govern the procedures for seeking a pardon.
"In line with the principle of upholding His Majesty's decree and the directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Umno has decided not to proceed with the gathering scheduled for Jan 6, 2025," said party secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
"The party has always demonstrated unwavering commitment to upholding the Malay Rulers' Institution, as enshrined in its constitution," he added.
