MEX disrupted by technical failure, major congestion at Putrajaya toll

KUALA LUMPUR: A technical failure of the electronic toll payment system caused severe congestion on the Maju Expressway (MEX) this morning, leaving rush-hour motorists frustrated and stranded in long queues at the Putrajaya toll plaza.

The highway operator stated that the issue, affecting RFID, Touch 'n Go, and the debit card Open Payment System (OPS), began at around 6.10am.

"RFID lanes S07 and N07 are experiencing technical problems. Other lanes are functioning as usual," read the post on X (formerly Twitter).

The disruption continued until 7.00am, when MEX announced that RFID lanes S07 and N07 at the Putrajaya toll plaza had been temporarily closed due to technical issues, including problems with OPS and the Account-Based Ticketing (ABT) systems. Other lanes were operating as usual.

A motorist travelling north from the Putrajaya toll towards Kuala Lumpur told the New Straits Times that he was stuck in standstill traffic for half an hour.

The highway operator later confirmed that all toll lanes had been restored to normal operations by 7.30am.
