SEPANG: Police said the hunt was still on for the mastermind behind the kidnapping of a Chinese man near the Putrajaya Toll Plaza, along the Maju Expressway (MEX) on Oct 18.
Acting district police chief Superintendent Shan Gopal Krishnan said police have so far arrested eight suspects, including a woman, in connection with the case.
"All of them are still in remand but police are now trying to track down the main suspect involved in the kidnapping," he was reported saying in an article in Sinar Harian today.
On Friday, the media reported that five men, including a local, were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the Chinese national's kidnapping case.
Earlier, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan had said that four Chinese nationals were remanded until today while a Malaysian's remand will end tomorrow.
It was reported that the victim was kidnapped while on his way to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 7.30am on Oct 18 to board a flight back to China.
His vehicle was intercepted in the middle of the highway by a Toyota Vellfire multi-purpose vehicle and he was abducted from the scene.
Hussein had said that the next day, the police arrested four Chinese men before finding the victim injured, while trying to escape from a building where he had been kept.
On Oct 22, police also arrested a local man to help with the investigation.
"The initial investigation found that the motive behind the abduction was money.
The victim allegedly owed the suspects RM300,000 which he refused to pay, which resulted in his kidnapping," he had said, adding that no ransom payments were made.
The case is being investigated under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.
