KUALA KRAI: The State Civil Defence Force rescued 13 pupils and seven teachers from a primary school here after a bridge was inundated by floodwaters yesterday.
Its director Colonel Mohd Adzhar Mujab said the group was stranded at the school after the main bridge connecting Kuala Pertang to Tanjung Kala was submerged by the flood.
"We started the operation to rescue the group after being informed about the incident around 4.30pm.
"The group had just completed their classes when the incident occurred," he said.
He added that Civil Defence officers had to use two boats to transport them to a lorry parked on higher ground.
"We then used the lorry to send all 20 people to their respective homes," he said.
The third wave of floods hit Kelantan yesterday, affecting four districts so far.
More than 800 people have been evacuated to 15 flood relief centres as of noon today.
The affected districts are Kuala Krai, Machang, Tanah Merah, and Pasir Mas.
The floods have also caused over 30 low-lying areas in these districts to be submerged, including Kampung Chenulang, Kampung Bedal, and Kampung Kelewek.
