Activist Fahmi Reza arrested over caricature of Sabah governor

KUALA LUMPUR: Activist and graphic designer Fahmi Reza was arrested by the police following more than 30 reports over a caricature that allegedly belittled Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman.

Fahmi's arrest, whose real name Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin, was confirmed by Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun to Malaysiakini.

Earlier, Fahmi in a Facebook post said he had been contacted by the police and was on his way to give a statement regarding the poster related to Musa that he uploaded on Facebook.

"If I don't update (my status) before 8pm, it means I will be spending the night in the lockup," he said.

Earlier today, Jauteh said the police are tracking down Fahmi following more than 30 reports over a caricature that allegedly insulted Musa.

He said an investigation paper had been opened against Fahmi.

"We are looking for him to hold him accountable for his actions, and the police will ensure the investigation into this case continues," he said at a press conference on the Sabah Anti-Corruption Peace Assembly at the Sabah police headquarters today.
