Malaysians involved in Norway bus crash unharmed, resume journey

KUALA LUMPUR: Two Malaysians involved in a bus accident near Lake Åsvatnet, Norway, on Dec 26 sustained minor injuries, which have been classified as "non-injury" cases by Norwegian authorities.

The Foreign Ministry, in a statement today, said the two individuals were in good health and have since resumed their journey in Norway without further complications.

"The ministry, on behalf of the Malaysian government, expresses its deepest gratitude to the local authorities in Norway for their prompt and invaluable assistance to the Malaysian passengers involved. Their swift action and support are sincerely appreciated," the statement read.

The ministry also clarified that the initial reports, which indicated the involvement of four Malaysians in the accident, were due to a misunderstanding. "The two other Malaysian nationals were staying at the same hotel but were not part of the accident," the statement added.

The ministry said that the safety and well-being of Malaysians abroad remain a top priority.

On Dec 27, the ministry announced that Malaysians were among the passengers on a tour bus in Norway that crashed near Lake Åsvatnet, killing three and seriously injuring four.

The crash was caused by heavy snowfall and strong winds.

A total of 58 passengers were on board.

Initial reports indicate that the passengers were foreign tourists from various countries, including Malaysia.
