IPOH: A total of 104 enforcement actions on offences involving heavy vehicles with unsafe tyre conditions during a technical crackdown operation held at Puspakom in Perak since Dec 26.
Perak Road Transport Department (RTD) director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan said these cases were part of 583 enforcement actions issued during the six-day operation.
He said the most common violations involved worn-out tyres, which could lead to accidents, followed by issues with exhaust systems, lights, and vehicle modifications.
Mohammad Yusoff also expressed dismay over social media advertisements posted by companies offering tyre rental services to help vehicles pass Puspakom inspections.
"Tyres are meant for single use only, as the wire mesh inside tyres gets damaged or loses strength over time, which can cause them to break or burst at any moment.
"It's frustrating to see advertisements from companies offering tyre replacement services specifically for Puspakom inspections, essentially turning this into a blatant business.
"In my opinion, this practice is inappropriate and should not continue," he told reporters after conducting the New Year's Eve Operation near a driving school in Meru here, last night.
He advised the public to report such activities to the authorities.
When asked about RTD's authority over companies offering tyre rental services, he said the matter would be referred to the relevant authorities for further study to determine appropriate actions.
"When we open Facebook, advertisements for these services appear, allowing anyone interested to contact the providers."
