KUALA LUMPUR: A fire broke out at the KLCC LRT station here at 4.15pm causing a sudden halt of train services along that route.
A city Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said a team of firemen were despatched to the scene immediately after the department's control centre received a distress call.
Seven firemen from the Jalan Tun Razak fire station, led by Mohamed Azimin Mohamed Zahidi arrived at the scene minutes later but the fire had already been put out.
Preliminary checks showed the fire involved a pump switch panel at the LRT station.
"The fire had already been extinguished by the KLCC Emergency Response Team (ERT) before the firemen arrived. They used a carbon dioxide (CO2) fire extinguisher to put out the fire," the spokesman said.
He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the Fire Investigation Unit has been notified.
"No casualties were reported, and the situation is under control."
Meanwhile, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail) in a statement this evening advised passengers to proceed to the Persiaran KLCC station and Ampang Park station to board their LRT trains following the temporary closure of the KLCC LRT station.
However, despite the closure, it said passengers are allowed to exit at the KLCC LRT station.
"Free shuttle bus services are provided between Ampang Park station, KLCC station, and Dang Wangi station," it said.
