Woman pretends to faint to escape immigration arrest in Ampang [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman pretended to faint during an Immigration Department operation in Ampang yesterday in an attempt to avoid arrest.

The operation, codenamed Ops Kutip, was carried out by the Selangor Immigration Department at the Ampang Point Shopping Centre.

Selangor Immigration Department director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said during the operation, some foreigners acted aggressively towards officers who were trying to detain them.

"Some others tried making excuses to avoid arrest and there were individuals who pretended to faint to avoid being detained," he said in a statement today.

He said the operation, conducted at 7.30pm, involved 35 officers from the Selangor Immigration Department and the Port Klang branch.

He said a total of 141 individuals were screened, and 53 people aged between 14 and 65 were detained.

Khairrul Aminus said among those detained were Indonesians (three men and 11 women), Afghans (eight men and three women) and Bangladeshis (four men and two women).

He said other detainees included nationals from India, Nepal, Australia, Philippines, Myanmar, Sweden, Tanzania, Morocco, Somalia, Nigeria and Pakistan.

He said the detainees were being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, for entry without valid permits and overstaying visas.
