KUALA LUMPUR: The Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF) recently awarded RM480,000 in scholarships to 12 university students based on their academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and leadership potential.
Each undergraduate, pursuing their bachelor's degree at local institutions of higher learning, will receive an annual scholarship worth RM10,000 for the duration of their studies.
This marks the 34th consecutive year that the foundation has awarded scholarships to deserving students.
The scholarships were presented by LPF chairman Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng and witnessed by LPF trustees Datuk CS Tang and Chow Mun Seong.
In her speech, Cheng said: "We hope that our contribution will ease their financial constraints, enabling the students to focus on their studies and participate in activities that develop their leadership skills and personal growth.
"The scholarship holders will receive training in essential soft skills, such as problem-solving and communication, and gain valuable experience through internships at Lion Group companies.
"This will equip them to face challenges in the corporate world. Upon graduation, they will have the opportunity to join the group in its various divisions, such as retail, branding, mining, steel, and property development, in line with their field of study," she added.
The Lion-Parkson Foundation was launched in 1990 to administer and disburse funds for various needs, such as education, charity, and scientific research.
To date, it has sponsored a total of 525 students through various sponsorship programs worth RM12.4 million.
In addition, the foundation has contributed another RM39.8 million to other causes, bringing its total contribution to RM52.2 million.
The foundation also provides financial assistance to Malaysians requiring medical treatment, such as surgery, the purchase of medical equipment, and medication.
It also supports community health programmes, such as medical camps, and the purchase of dialysis machines and medical equipment for charitable organisations.
