RTD, Domestic Trade ministry to meet next week on 'cosmetic agents' involved in Puspakom inspection scams

KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry Enforcement Division will meet with the Road Transport Department next week to discuss activities of 'cosmetic agents', who offer services such as tyre rentals for heavy vehicles to pass inspections at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom).

The ministry's enforcement division director-general, Datuk Azman Adam when confirming the meeting said RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli contacted him on the matter yesterday.

He, however, could not share the details of their discussion until the planned meeting took place.

"Let us discuss with the RTD first, then we can issue a statement. We haven't had the discussion yet and don't know the outcome of it.

"The discussion will be held this week (next week). He contacted me yesterday, and once the discussion is completed, I'll be able to provide more information.

"We will discuss and look into which areas of jurisdiction can be further examined, that's what we need to look into in detail," he said.

It was reported that the RTD together with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry plans to crack down on 'cosmetic agents' offering services such as tyre rentals for heavy vehicles to pass Puspakom inspections.

Aedy Fadly had said the department was planning to collaborate with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry to address the issue.

"This is a dangerous scam because when undergoing inspection at Puspakom, they use rented tyres that are in good condition compared to the vehicle's actual worn-out tyres.

"However, RTD has no authority to enter these premises, so we will discuss this with the ministry.

"I will meet with the ministry's director-general of enforcement Datuk Azman Adam, within the next week or two to allow this issue to be thoroughly examined for further action as it involves public safety," he said.
