KULIM: A factory worker here was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a trailer on Jalan Titi Karangan - Baling last night.
In the incident, the 23-year-old victim was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe head and body injuries.
District police chief Superintendent Zulkifli Azizan said they received information from the public at 8.30pm about an accident in front of the Kulim Logistics Hub involving a trailer and a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle.
An initial investigation found that the incident occurred around 8pm when the victim, riding from Kuala Ketil toward Kulim, collided with a trailer driven by a 45-year-old man heading from Kulim toward the Kulim Logistics Hub.
"At the scene, the motorcyclist is believed to have continued riding through a red light, while the trailer was turning right. This caused a collision on the left side of the trailer and the front of the victim's motorcycle.
"As a result of the accident, the motorcyclist sustained severe head and body injuries and died at the scene," he said.
Zulkifli added that investigations revealed the cause of the accident was the motorcyclist's negligence in disregarding the red light and failing to be cautious, leading to the collision with the trailer, which was lawfully in its lane at the time.
"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to come forward to assist with the investigation," he said.
