Prabowo to arrive on first official visit to Malaysia today [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will make an official visit to Malaysia today, his first since assuming office in October last year.

In a statement, Wisma Putra said the visit reflects the special relationship between Malaysia and the Republic of Indonesia, underpinned by robust cooperation across various fields, including economic, socio-cultural, defence and security.

During his visit, Prabowo is set to meet with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The two leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

A private luncheon will also be hosted by Anwar in honour of the Indonesian leader.

As Malaysia assumes the role of Asean Chairman this year, both leaders are expected to engage in discussions on regional cooperation, Asean community building, and addressing shared global challenges.

Indonesia is one of Malaysia's most important trading partners.

In 2023, Indonesia ranked as Malaysia's seventh-largest global trading partner and third-largest within Asean, with total trade valued at RM111.21 billion (USD24.39 billion).

Between January and October 2024, bilateral trade reached RM95.50 billion (USD20.75 billion), a slight increase from RM94.37 billion (USD20.69 billion) during the same period in 2023.
