RANAU: Residents of Kampung Lungkidau, Paginatan, were left stranded after the suspension bridge linking their village to the neighbouring area was deemed unsafe for use.
The situation arose due to rising river levels and strong currents following continuous heavy rain since yesterday.
District police chief Superintendent Mursalin Mahmud advised the public to exercise caution and avoid using the suspension bridge, as it is currently unsafe.
"We urge the public to remain in safe areas and stay away from low-lying locations prone to flooding.
"Avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas identified as high-risk for floods or landslides," he said when contacted today.
He advised residents to prepare emergency supplies, including clean water, food, and flashlights, in anticipation of possible power disruptions.
"Check the drainage system at your home and ensure there are no blockages to allow smooth water flow.
"If you live in a flood-prone area, be ready to evacuate immediately if instructed by the authorities and bring essential documents.
"Prioritise your safety and that of your family, and always follow the instructions and warnings issued by local authorities or emergency agencies," he added.
