Severe storm swept through Klang Valley, uprooting trees and disrupting celebrations [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Klang Valley residents were taken by surprise as a brief respite from hot weather turned into a stormy ordeal with strong winds and heavy rains lashing the city last night.

The storm, which wreaked havoc in several parts of Klang Valley, uprooted at least 10 trees and even disrupted a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house celebration, leaving residents shocked. 

Social media platforms were flooded with videos capturing the intensity of the weather last night.

TikTok user, @banggiant77, shared a 30-second video showing the forceful winds and torrential rain wreaking havoc on a Raya open house.

In the video, a voice exclaimed, "Mom! The tents are flying away!" as the wind tore through the tents set up for the event.

Another TikTok user, @kazim.my, posted a 26-second video from Pavilion shopping centre in Bukit Bintang.

The footage showed a group of people assisting a woman to see shelter inside the mall while the storm raged outside. The powerful winds were even seen ripping apart sections of a signboard, causing an atmosphere of panic.

On Twitter, user @fatinizzate shared a tweet accompanied by a video, warning others about the rainstorm and urging everyone to stay safe and drive carefully.

The footage displayed tables and chairs being buffeted by the rain and wind at a restaurant.

Similarly, another Twitter user, @Shazz_14, uploaded a 20-second video showing patrons seeking refuge inside a restaurant. The astonished onlookers watched as the heavy rain and raging wind unfolded before them.

Earlier, it was reported that a family residing on the 12th floor of a Jalan Loke Yew flat experienced a terrifying incident when their living room wall was torn apart by strong winds during a thunderstorm and heavy rainfall yesterday evening.
