KUALA LUMPUR: A woman discovered not one but six fingernail clippings while having lunch at a restaurant in the Klang Valley recently.
A Twitter user said her mother was the one who found the fingernail clippings in her meal after finishing half the food on her plate.
She shared two of the images which clearly showed the clipped nails.
"Halfway through our lunch, my mom found not only one but a total of SIX nail clippings in her rice. She was already chewing two of it. No words," she tweeted.
The tweet garnered more than a million views and was retweeted about 7,000 times.
The said restaurant had issued an apology on its official Facebook page, but did not make any specific reference to the incident, saying that it would investigate into how foreign objects had contaminated food served at its establishment.
The restaurant also assured its patrons that it was an isolated incident which did not reflect its standard operating procedures, adding that it had already implemented immediate measures including additional training on food safety and handling protocols.
"We regret to learn that a customer has found foreign objects in her food, and we understand the concern and inconvenience she has gone through as a result of this incident.
"We sincerely apologise to the customer(s) involved and also to all our other loyal patrons," the restaurant said.
Netizens, meanwhile, were in disbelief over the standard of food offered by the restaurant.
Some labeled it as another 'special ingredient' after the recent viral incident of another restaurant serving dishes with unhygienic substances, to its rude customers.
Others felt this to be much worse than finding insects in the food.
Twitter user @sincereaccmy urged the Twitter user to report the matter to the authorities.
"Who would accidentally put nail clipping into the food. Feel sorry for your mom, these people are stupid," said the netizen.
Another Twitter user @ajjanicee was concerned over the mother's health as she was consuming contaminated food.
"The nails alone are already infected with germs, bacteria, etc, and the food is already contaminated with their poor hygiene. Poor mom. I hope she's okay." she said.
