KUALA LUMPUR: A woman believed to be a resident of a People's Housing Project (PPR) was criticised by netizens after a video of her shouting at officers who came to resolve the issue of her overdue rent went viral.
In a video posted by X user @localrkyt on Wednesday, the woman appeared furious with the presence of the authorities and raised her voice during the discussion.
In the video, the woman is heard lamenting why she was not provided assistance, while foreigners were allowed to conduct business without permits.
"Don't bother me. Why are you coming here? I am struggling, my husband is sick, can't you understand that?" she said in the video.
"Madam, please listen to my explanation first, we are here to help you. Your rent is only RM124 a month," said an officer in uniform in the video.
"Yes, I know. But I am struggling. Don't even mention RM124, I don't even have RM50 in my account right now,"said the woman.
The exact date and location of the incident was not mentioned in the video.
The New Straits Times has reached out to City Hall for details on the incident.
The incident was widely condemned by netizens who described the woman's actions as unfair to the officer involved.
"It is only RM124 per month sis. Please be grateful as others are struggling to look for a home. There are those renting a room the size of a store at RM400 and above. Try and get that RM124 whether you want to or not," says user @xamirrul.
"Seriously, a house that nice at only RM124?" questioned user @perempuanpsych, pointing out the house's decorations in the video.
"The officers were kind enough to speak nicely and explain the instalment plan to help her situation. But she just brushed them off," says user @iam_ein.
