KUALA LUMPUR: A young woman was trapped inside the luggage compartment of an express bus upon arriving in Johor Baru on June 25.
In her Xiaohongshu post, the 20-year-old recounted how her suitcase had shifted deeper into the compartment as she attempted to retrieve it.
However, the door suddenly closed behind her, leaving her trapped inside.
"I turned around and banged on the compartment door, but no one heard me," she shared, describing her fear and distress.
"As the bus began to move, I worried whether the driver was aware of my presence and would open the door," she wrote.
"I started feeling dizzy, but I struggled to remain conscious."
After approximately ten minutes, she was finally freed, much to the surprise of bystanders at the bus stop.
Expressing dismay, she noted that the driver neither apologised nor took her plight seriously, assuming she had disembarked.
"It was the most terrifying moment of my life," she admitted, overwhelmed with emotion.
"I hope no one ever experiences what I went through."
Following the incident, her boyfriend contacted the bus operator, leading to an apology from the company, which acknowledged the distress caused by the oversight.
"Due to heavy rain, the driver failed to notice her in the compartment when closing it," the company's message stated.
They assured that corrective actions, including disciplinary measures against the driver and involved staff, would be implemented to prevent a recurrence.
