KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians devouring 17 tonnes of durian at the recent Durian Festival in Perak has garnered netizens' attention.
The event offered an all-you-can-eat durian buffet for just RM10 per person. However, the organisers clearly underestimated the enthusiastic turnout from the public, particularly durian lovers.
According to TripZilla, an online travel guide, festival planners aimed to serve 10 tonnes of durian over two days. However, this target was exceeded in just eight hours, with a total of 17 tonnes consumed.
"They (the organisers) had initially estimated to offload 10 tonnes of durian over two days, only to surpass this quota in just eight hours," TripZilla said on its Facebook page.
Netizens flooded the comments section, expressing their amazement at Malaysians' unwavering love for durian and urging festival planners to better prepare for future events.
"Never underestimate Malaysians' love for durian. The smell is just incredible!" commented user Jin Theng.
Another user, Nurul Zulaikha Jusoh, added: "Festival planners need to do proper research. The moment you announce an all-you-can-eat durian deal for RM10, durian lovers from Perlis to Johor will flock to the event. I can easily eat more than 10 durians in one sitting!"
