40 tonnes of durian to delight visitors at Langkawi festival

LANGKAWI: Approximately 40 tonnes of the king of fruits will be offered to visitors at the Langkawi Durian Festival.

The event, held in the Pekan Rabu Complex in Kuah, will run for 10 days starting on Aug 1.

This will be the largest durian festival ever on the island, jointly organised by the Langkawi Petty Traders Organisation (PUPKLL) and MP Fresh Fruits.

PUPKLL chairman Yusof Zakaria said that between three and four tonnes of durians from various varieties will be available to visitors each day throughout the festival.

"Most of the supplies are sourced from Pengkalan Hulu in Perak and Balik Pulau in Penang. We are also bringing in about 500 kilogrammes of Musang King from Raub, Pahang, daily," he said during the launch ceremony, officiated by Langkawi district officer Mohamad Subhi Abdullah.

Yusof said that adult visitors will be charged RM35 for entrance, while children aged between 8 and 12 will be charged RM25 for unlimited durian. Children aged six and below can eat for free.

Subhi commended the organisers for their initiative.

"Langkawi needs more agrotourism-based events to attract visitors in the lead-up to Visit Kedah 2025," he said.
