KUALA LUMPUR: A family that solely depended on fishing at sea for income, now lost the only fishing boat they owned in a recent storm that hit Teluk Kumbar, Penang.
The strong winds and several-metre waves struck the shoreline at Teluk Kumbar, where fishermen usually moor their fishing boats.
A few boats were badly damaged while several others sank due to the extreme weather conditions.
A video of the aftermath has gone viral showing two men in the sea, trying to recover and save whatever little is left from their boat which had sunk.
The man recording the video is heard telling viewers that his father's boat was among those that sank.
"The fishing boat sank together with the engine and boat rod and we only managed to find some entangled nets from the boat.
"They (the two men in the video, including his father) only managed to save the fishing nets which fell from the boat into the sea and some other things found floating nearby," he is heard saying.
The video uploaded on TikTok by syafasyed has been widely shared on many social media platforms.
The caption on the post read: Allahuakhbar, just a few moments ago at 4.30pm, father recived a call saying his boat had capsized. This is a test for the whole family, as the boat was the only source of income after his retirement. It sank just like that, very sad".
The post also received many encouraging comments from netizens, including one that said: "Hopefully Paksu Malik will be strong. Maybe God wants to give him some other blessings".
Another commenter, Muhammad Firdaus said to be positive.
"Who knows, he might get a new boat, bigger and better," he said.
One other commenter wrote:" Now you know the risk that comes with 'parking' by the beach. Next time park at an estuary, much safer.
"Make sure the spot has a system that can pull the boat up, on to the sand".
