LUMUT: A crocodile sighting in the waters of Pantai Teluk Batik has become the talk of the community, stirring both excitement and worry among locals and tourists.
The sighting of the unexpected reptile was first reported on Thursday, and the Civil Defence Force was called in immediately at 1.09pm.
A spokesman said upon arriving at the beach they received help from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency to patrol the beach before the sighting was confirmed at 2.24pm
"The crocodile was spotted roaming the waters in the area. Monitoring efforts are ongoing," he said.
The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) has also been roped in to help capture the reptile, and it is learnt that they, too, are in the midst of securing the area.
The viral video, which quickly gained traction on social media, reignited discussions about wildlife in the area.
Netizens were quick to recall several similar sightings in 2022 and 2017 at Teluk Batik and Teluk Rubiah.
