KUALA LUMPUR: A cosmetic store owner found herself scammed out of RM309.80 after a customer allegedly altered a QR payment receipt.
In a series of TikTok posts, Hazila Ramly said the amount may seem small to larger businesses, but for her, it could cover a week's salary for her staff.
Hazila also shared CCTV footage showing two customers who allegedly duped one of her employees.
She claimed the customer used a fake receipt, altering the font to make it look legitimate.
"RM300 might seem small to big businesses, but for us small traders, it can cover a week's worth of staff wages," she said.
Hazila has since lodged a police report over the incident.
Netizens quickly responded with advice for Hazila. Some suggested she purchase a soundbox to notify her of incoming payments, while others recommended scanning customers' QR codes directly to avoid fraud.
One user, Spicy Deluxe, shared her business practice: "At our outlet, we don't let customers scan our QR code. Instead, we scan theirs."
Another user, Mira, encouraged Hazila to get the soundbox: "Buy the QR machine that rings when a payment goes through. Don't let them take advantage."
Hazila said she had already bought the soundbox, but it was not yet operational.
