GOMBAK: A video of a man breaking into a car and stealing its battery at a hypermarket here has gone viral.
The 18-second video, which has been viewed 147,000 times shows footage believed to be from the vehicle's dashcam.
It shows a man clad in a blue round-neck T-shirt and baseball cap fiddling at the front of the vehicle for a few seconds before opening its bonnet as the vehicle's alarm is triggered.
The alarm shuts off moments before the video footage stops.
Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir confirmed that a police report was lodged on the incident.
"We received a report at 1.32am on Oct 23.
"We have classified the case as theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code," he said adding that investigations were on going.
