KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man in connection with the theft of a car battery at a hypermarket parking lot here.
Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said a 31-year-old man was arrested on Thursday to help facilitate investigations.
"We also seized a car battery (from the man)," he said in a statement.
He said the case has been classified under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code for theft of vehicle components.
It was reported earlier today that a video of a man breaking into a car and stealing its battery at a hypermarket here had gone viral.
The 18-second video, which has been viewed 147,000 times, shows footage believed to be from the vehicle's dashboard camera.
It shows a man clad in a blue round-neck T-shirt and baseball cap fiddling at the front of the vehicle for a few seconds before opening its bonnet as the vehicle's alarm is triggered.
The alarm shuts off moments before the video footage stops.
Police received a report on the incident at 1.32am on Oct 23.
