KUALA LUMPUR: A video of a convenience store worker celebrating a young girl's birthday has gone viral.
Nur Ellisa Muhd Yusoff shared a TikTok video of her singing 'Happy Birthday' while handing a cupcake with a lit candle to the girl who had come into the convenience store where she was working.
Nur Ellisa explained that she uploaded the video without expecting much attention, but it quickly gained over 400,000 views.
"Alhamdulillah, there were many positive comments, and people even sent me well wishes.
"What I did that day was simply to cheer the girl up by putting myself in her shoes," said Nur Ellisa.
According to her, the girl initially bought a cupcake and paid for it, but then asked if she could also purchase a lighter.
"She said she wanted to buy a lighter, but I didn't sell it to her at first because I didn't want to sell it to a minor.
"Then, she took a candle out of her pocket and told me it was her birthday, and she wanted to light the candle on the cupcake she bought," she said.
Nur Ellisa asked if the young girl was going to celebrate with friends, to which the girl replied that she didn't have any and was planning to celebrate by herself.
Feeling sorry for letting the girl celebrate her birthday alone, she lit the candle on the cupcake and then sang 'Happy Birthday' to her.
"What I did was just a small gesture, and I could see that the girl was touched and thanked me for celebrating her birthday.
"Seeing the expression on her face made me sad, but I didn't probe further because I wanted to respect her privacy, Nur Ellisa said.
