KUALA LUMPUR: Netizens have condemned the heartless act of dumping stray dogs into a pit to die in Sitiawan, Perak.
This follows the recent discovery of dead and decomposing dog carcasses in a 4-foot-deep pit in the Manjung district.
The act allegedly was carried out by municipal officers, who were entrusted with catching strays.
This discovery accompanied by a video of the dead animals, published in the New Straits Times upset netizens. who condemned the inhumane act.
Many demanded for an immediate investigation into the matter and urged those responsible to be dealt with severely.
Comments the article received on social media platforms expressed anger, dissatisfaction and called for stern action to be taken against those involved.
ask_shaz said if the videos were authentic, something "seriously is wrong with our local authorities and the people that run them."
"It alludes to sadism and evil. I implore the Veterinary Services Department to investigate and take action. The right action would serve to signal that these actions are wrong morally and legally", he said in his comment.

Too said the rampant cases of animal cruelty is concerning, and it is crucial for the government to step in and take decisive action.
Another comment from Norazianasmi urged relevant parties to act.
"In recent days there have been too many killings of dogs and cats. What do you think, the earth is made only for humans to live in, is it?" she wrote.
Sam Suraya said if the authorities condone the act of cruelty, it will happen again.
