KUALA LUMPUR: The pilots of a Malaysia Airlines flight to London's Heathrow Airport gained praise for a skillfull landing amid bad weather recently.
In a video shared on the True Malaysia Airlines Fans Facebook from aviation spotter channel Big Jet TV, the Malaysia Airlines Airbus A350-900 airliner was seen executing a smooth landing despite being buffetted by strong crosswinds from Storm Darragh.
"Interesting video… Looks like row 40 in Economy was landing first. Many go-arounds today at LHR (London Heathrow) because of Storm Darragh," read the post accompanying the video.
In the video, the plane can be seen performing a "crabbing" landing — where the plane, especially its rear flies non-perpendicular to the runway due to crosswind conditions.
Netizens applauded the pilots for executing the tricky landing.
User Salih Jamil said: "Massive crosswinds… MAS has many ace pilots… They can do it."
"Amazing flying by the captain. What a great crabbing!!! Hats off and hurray to the MAS captain," said Wai Ling Mok.
Vijay Nowuram also praised the pilots, calling them heroes: "MH: Malaysian Hospitality; in this case…. Malaysian Heroes," he said.
