#NSTviral: Skudai restaurant in hot water over alleged use of dumpster vegetables [WATCH]

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Health Department is investigating allegations that a restaurant in Skudai used discarded vegetables to prepare meals for customers.

The investigation was prompted by a 31-second video posted on TikTok showing several individuals collecting discarded vegetables from a dumpster.

The video also depicted them washing the vegetables behind the restaurant, allegedly to be cooked and served to customers.

The man who recorded the video questioned one of the women, believed to be a restaurant employee, about the activity.

She claimed the vegetables were for personal use.

However, the man filming the footage insisted that the vegetables were intended for the restaurant's kitchen, sparking public outrage.

Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon confirmed that health officials were notified and investigations are ongoing.

"The enforcement officers visited the restaurant yesterday, but it was closed. They then went to the location shown in the video, a known vegetable disposal site often frequented by people searching for salvageable produce," he said.

Meanwhile, the restaurant owner denied the allegations, calling them baseless and part of a smear campaign.

In a response on TikTok, the owner labelled the accusations as an "irresponsible sabotage" aimed at damaging the business's reputation.
