KUALA LUMPUR: A video of policemen going above and beyond the call of duty to help a down-on-his-luck motorcyclist and his family has touched hearts across Malaysia.
The video, shared by @zukiy3044 on TikTok, shows the moment when the man was stopped by police near the Kepala Batas area after running a red light in Kedah. His son was also with him, sitting in front of him, with his feet in the utility basket.
The video shows the man's vehicle in poor condition, adding to the list of possible traffic violations. The motorcyclist admitted that he could not repair his bike's faulty brakes because of financial difficulties.
However, rather than issuing a fine, the police officers decided to help. They took the man's motorcycle to a nearby workshop and covered the cost of the repairs out of their own pockets.
The clip has since gone viral, with many commending the officers for their selflessness and dedication to serving the community. During these challenging times, members of the public also noted that their actions are a poignant reminder of the power of empathy and generosity.
The workshop owner, Firdaus, in the comments section, also commended the policemen who helped the man. He revealed that the officers not only paid for a new set of brakes, but also helped pay to have the bike serviced.
"As the shop owner, I am truly grateful to the police officers who helped this man and his children. They didn't just replace the brakes; they even serviced the bike for him," he said.
The video has since gained 1.5 million views and 99.5k likes at the time of writing.
