MELAKA: Politicians must never sacrifice their principles just for the sake of gaining political support.
UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Razak said former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had gone too far to be in cahoots with the opposition.
"Dr Mahathir once criticised (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim using words which I will never use. And now Dr Mahathir has looked for the very same person he once lambasted.
“If I were Wan Azizah, I cannot look at his face for what he did to my husband. In politics, we must have principles and moral high ground,” Najib said here in Masjid Tanah to launch the Umno division meeting.
Najib also reiterated that Dr Mahathir cannot pit him against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Najib said Dr Mahathir also used the ISA (Internal Security Act) to force Zahid to resign from his post as UMNO Youh chief.
"Zahid told me that Dr Mahathir also sent a special branch officer to ask Zahid to sign a letter and resign voluntarily.
“Just imagine if I arrested a youth leader and asked him to resign? The country will be in chaos. So who is the dictator now?” said Najib.
