PH will also gain if Najib is released, says Umno delegate

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan may also benefit from Datuk Seri Najib Razak's release from prison, said an Umno delegate from Terengganu.

Setiu deputy division chief Mohd Iskandar Jaafar in his call to ask for the imprisoned former prime minister's release, said Najib would be a "catalyst" for Barisan Nasional's revival.

"Free Najib. The time has come for a serious effort in accordance with Article 42 of the Federal Constitution while respecting the powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the concept of federalism that separates the involvement of the legislative, executive and judiciary.

"Najib will be the catalyst for BN's revival, and PH will also benefit from it," he said when debating the presidential policy speech at the Umno General Assembly today.

A delegate from Puteri Umno also reiterated calls for Najib to be given justice.

Siti Nor Hasyyati Abd Rahman said his freedom was not only for himself but also symbolised that truth would ultimately prevail over all challenges and trials.

"We pray for him to be given strength in facing this test and we hope that one day, he will be given the freedom he rightfully deserves," she said.

Over the course of four days, party leaders had repeated calls for their former president to be pardoned and released from jail.

This included Umno president and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who stressed that the party would remain steadfast in fighting for Najib's fate.

"We will not stop until our Bossku (Najib) receives justice," he said in his policy speech yesterday.
