Melaka MIC ready for GE14, to ensure a greater victory for BN

MELAKA: State MIC election machineries from all 150 branches and six divisions are prepared to face the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14), state party committee member Datuk M.S Mahadevan said.

He said the party, having gained a 70 per cent support from the Indian community, is aiming to increase the community's support by another 10 per cent, by getting more Barisan Nasional supporters to register as voters.

"At present, there are 18,000 Indian voters representing about six per cent of the total voters in the state.

"But we hope to register about 1,000 or 2,000 more voters before the next general election to ensure a greater victory for BN," he told reporters when met at his Deepavali Open House in Taman Paya Rumput Indah here, today.

The Open House, which began at 11am drew about 2,000 guests from all walks of life.

Also present were Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob, Sungai Rambai assemblyman Datuk Hasan Abdul Rahman, Ayer Molek assemblyman Datuk Md Yunos Husin and other state executive council members.

Mahadevan, who is also the Company Affairs, Human Resources and NGO Committee chairman, also called on the Indian community not to be swayed by slanderous accusations hurled against BN, adding that BN have been working hard to assist the people.

"Even recently, we distributed aid to 5,000 recipients including the senior citizens and the poor and we will continue to provide more contributions after this.

"BN also have been offering aid to recent flood victims so I hope they will not listen to the accusations made against BN," he said.

Asked if he will be contesting in the upcoming polls, the Gadek assemblyman said he would if given the opportunity.

"Although I am 63, I am still young and energetic. I am ready to continue serving my constituents and the Indian community if given the chance," he said.

In GE13, Mahadevan won the Gadek state seat securing 5,975 votes, a majority of 2,630 against Independent candidate Abdullah Sani Rejab and PKR candidate G. Rajandran.
