SHAH ALAM: DAP legal bureau chief Gobind Singh Deo trumps his boss party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng by 18 votes to come in second in its central executive committee (CEC) re-election today.
With 1,198 votes, Gobind, who is also Puchong member of parliament, lost by only one vote to DAP adviser and Guan Eng’s father Lim Kit Siang, who again came out on top of the CEC list.
According to the election result announced by Grant Thornton auditing company, Kit Siang received 1,199 votes while Guan Eng, who is also Penang chief minister, received 1,180.
In the party’s CEC 2012 election and its re-election a year later, Kit Siang received 1,607 and 1,436 respectively, while Guan Eng 1,576 and 1,304.
Returning officer John Lau in making the announcement said party organising secretary and Seremban MP Anthony Loke came in at the fourth place with 1,175 votes, followed by Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong (1,123) and Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching (1,080).
Other DAP candidates who made it to the list of 20 CEC members are Chong Chieng Jen, Teresa Kok, Tan Kok Wai, Tony Pua, Nga Kor Ming, Fong Kui Lun, Chow Kon Yeow, M. Kulasegaran, Chong Eng, Teng Chang Khim, Ngeh Koo Ham, and Zairil Khir Johari.
Batu Gajah MP V. Sivakumar and former Selangor exco member Ronnie Liu emerged as newcomers to the list, replacing the late party chairman Karpal Singh and Skudai state assemblyman Dr Boo Cheng Hau who did not make the cut.
The CEC members were voted in by 1,346 delegates.
