Harapan's RoS registration held up by DAP, PPBM 'issues': Tun Mahathir

PUTRAJAYA: Issues involving DAP and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) are the main reasons why Pakatan Harapan's registration with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) is on hold.

Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad revealed this after a meeting with Home Ministry officials, which was also attended by the pact's component party presidents here.

"The officers told us that there are problems with PPBM and DAP. If we were told earlier about this, we could've resolved it earlier.

"We had no intention of either protesting or creating problems with the government. We will follow all rules set by the government.

"Now that we know what the problems are, we will take action immediately," Dr Mahathir told reporters when met outside the Home Ministry's building here on Monday.

However, he did not explain what the issues involving DAP and PPBM are, as cited by the Home Ministry.

Present during the press conference were PPBM President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, PKR President Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Parti Amanah Negara President Mohamad Sabu and DAP Chairman Tan Kok Wai.

Pakatan Harapan had submitted its application for registration to the RoS on July 24, but has yet to receive a response.

Dr Mahathir was scheduled to meet with Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, but according to the former premier, the latter has a prior engagement with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

"We could not meet with the minister (Zahid). We are disappointed. But we met with the ministry's secretary-general (Datuk Alwi Ibrahim) and he listened to our grouses.

"We just want to register immediately so that we have enough time to prepare for the general election. If we are given the results (of the application just) one or two weeks before (the election), it would not be enough (time)," he added.

Last Thursday, the RoS said PPBM may not be allowed to contest in the 14th general election (GE14) if it fails to hold its annual general meeting (AGM) first.

DAP on the other hand held its Central Executive Committee re-election recently, following a directive for fresh elections to be held for the CEC.

On July 7, the RoS had said that the DAP's earlier CEC re-election on Sept 29, 2013 was not done in accordance with the law.
