DAP-led Penang not interested in affordable housings for bumiputera, claims state Umno

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Umno slammed DAP-led state government for the lack of efforts in providing affordable housings for bumiputera in Penang.

State Umno chief Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman said only 20 per cent of the RM110.93 million under Tabung Amanah Perumahan Bumiputera, equivalent to RM4.64 million, was used to provide affordable houses for the bumiputera in the state till today.

He claimed that since 2009, the fund was only used last year to buy 320 low-medium cost house at The Rise @ SP Chelliah.

"The state government needs to come clean, why only that particular projects was done in that manner? Why didn't the state government buys the units at other housing projects as well?

"The DAP government does not seem to be interested in providing houses for the bumiputera in Penang, not to mention providing affordable houses for the Penangites. They just want to show off the amount saved." he said in a statement today.

In contrast, he said that the federal government had build a total of 34 projects through four agencies between 2008 and 2016, providing 5,950 affordable houses in the state.

Nineteen projects are on-going while 39 more projects are in the pipeline, he said.

"The total houses built, currently building and will be build by the federal government for the Penangites are 56,569 by end of next year." he added.
